Before this year's HAWA HealthPoint Check-Up, Lorie Seay, HR Manager at Allegiance Bank, took a couple minutes to talk with us about her experience with the HAWA Health and the value of understanding your personal health data.
HAWA Health: Before your HAWA HealthPoint Check-Up, when was the last time you had a complete physical or preventative blood draw?
Lorie: To be honest, I couldn't even tell you when. It has been that long.I have always felt fairly well so I didn't see the need to go to the doctor.
H: You have completed two check-ups with HAWA Health over the last two years, what information have you learned through this process?
L: I learned that even though physically I felt ok, there were still things developing within my body that would require medical attention.
H: Were you surprised by your check-up results?
L: Absolutely! I had no idea until I got the results that I was a Type 2 Diabetic, had high cholesterol, and high blood pressure.
H: Do you wish you would have completed an annual physical with preventative blood draw before joining HAWA Health?
L: Yes, because itʼs possible, if caught earlier, some of these newly-discovered issues might have been less severe or even prevented.
H: If you had known of your health risk data earlier, would you have been able to prevent your current health conditions?
L: Yes, the earlier you know and are aware the sooner you can get on track to prevent the worsening of any and all illnesses and diseases.
H: What actions have you taken to improve your health since being diagnosed with your current health conditions?
L: I immediately made an appointment with my primary care doctor and printed out my screening results and took them with me for the visit. I am now on medications to treat what was needed and taking (baby) steps to eat healthier, lose weight, and do what I should have been doing to take care of myself.
H: Why would you recommend everyone get a HAWA HealthPoint Check-Up?
L: Do as I say and not as I do and get the screenings. Your life depends on it! You never know how it may help to prolong your life by creating an awareness.
